Hunting Hills coaches Sedgewick, Sorensen, Milne, Rivera, Clarkson, Albert, Vanderwater, and Vickery were all selected to attend the
2017 Coach's Clinic held at Ohio State University in Columbus Ohio. This three day clinic was filled with coaches from across Canada and the
US, all eager to learn from some of the best coaches in the NCAA and NFL.
Seminars included everything from team building, training, conditioning, chalk talk, personnel management, and program culture. Many of the
coaches split up in their respective disciplines to absorb the absolute most from the clinic, later to converge to share amongst the other coaches.
The seminars were held in the state of the art Woody Hayes Athletic Centre home of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Keynote speakers included notable coaches Bill Belichick (New England), Lou Holtz (Notre Dame), Urban Meyer (Ohio State), Steve Addazio (Boston College) to name a few.
Being able to absorb the immense knowledge from these world famous coaches was not only a privilege, but a distinct honor. Much of their team philosophies
have been implemented with our own program and culture.
Early on day two the Ohio State Buckeye team was out on their outdoor practice fields showcasing their disciplined, and highly technical skill sets during
their practice. Defensive and Offensive squads pursued their skill sets with relentless effort and intensity, an inspirational display for the sport we all
love. The precision and timing in their drills showcases the intense coaching these athletes receive. Truly a program that lives and breeds football.
One of the last seminars of the clinic was a strength and conditioning seminar held inside the Woody Hayes facility. Athletes demonstrated their physical
prowess in executing their conditioning drills while their conditioning coaches explained the importance of each drill. Many of these drills were implemented
into our Spring agility sessions in April, prepping our own athletes for Spring camp.
As a closer to the entire clinic, the coaches were treated with watching the annual 'Spring Game'. Each university program in the NCAA has their defensive squads match up
against their offensive squads in a fun, but competitive 'practice game'.
The game was held in 'the shoe' which is the home stadium for the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Team Scarlet Team plays against Team Grey in a full length football game, where over 90,000 people attended! For a practice game!!! Man the football culture in the US
is really unbelievable. Even NFL players, and former Buckeyes Joey Bosa and Ezekiel Elliott made appearances! This experience was an amazing highlight for all of the coaches!
Football is not just a sport in the US, it's an identity. Football is so viral in Ohio, and it quite apparent by their incredible fan base and the culture they reinforce
within their programs.
NFL Hall of Fame
To top off the entire experience, the coaches all headed 2 hours north of Columbus to Canton, Ohio which is the
home of the NFL Hall of Fame. This experience was an amazing bucket list for many of the coaches, and it truly was an inspirational
experience walking through the atrium with all of the busts of the greatest players ever to don pads. Needless to say this experience
was a very moving experience, beyond what words can say. A must see for any true fan of the sport!
All of the Hunting Hills coaches sincerely appreciate these experiences, and it is our job and obligation to pass on this
wealth of knowledge to the athletes who 'Bleed Blue' with Hunting Hills. This experience helps build coach bonding, coach retention,
and a mutual approach to building an amazing football program. Thank you to Hunting Hills for supporting this initiative in
strengthening the football program.
